Zagreb in Two Days: Day 2

Are you ready for Day 2 of our Zagreb Adventure?

Before we continue this journey with you, we would like to teach you some words in Bosnian/Croatian/Serbian (BCS) that you can use in everyday conversation.

First of all, you need to know how to greet people and you can do it with: Bok, Zdravo, Ćao, or if you want to be more official, go with: Dobar dan. Good evening is Dobro veče. Hvala/Hvala puno stands for thank you/thank you very much.

Now, let's implement all that knowledge you have! :)

09:00-10:30
Let's wake up! Kavatava is great place to have first morning coffee and breakfast. They have wonderful toasts and American pancakes. You will recognize Kava tava because of its interesting decoration with coffee cups all over the walls, fences…

10:30-12:00
It's time to discover the most beautiful part of Zagreb – the Upper town! There you can see: Kaptol, Dolac market, Tkalčićeva, Bloody Bridge, Radićeva, The Stone Gate, Opatička, St Mark’s Square, Catherine’s Square, The Strossmayer Promenade etc.

You can easily reach Upper town with a funicular railway (ticket is around 1,5 euros), which was constructed in 1888.

Tkalčićeva Street is the centre of all evening activity, but it's also really nice just for a pleasant walk while discovering the capital of Croatia, since it is filled with lots of small, cute houses. One of them is Ivica i Marica which has a Hansel and Gretel theme.

12:00-13:30
In the Upper town you have lot of things that can occupy your attention: from facades of the buildings to the museums. We recommend you to explore a bit and to walk through this amazing historical part of the city. That way you will for sure find few interesting spots, such as: The Mestrovic atelier, the museum of broken relationships, the Zagreb city museum.

The Museum of Broken Relationships has a unique exhibit of objects that symbolize the point in the lives of loved ones when romance fell apart. There you can see things like: photos, rings, wedding dresses, jewelry, axe, stuffed animals, letters etc. Above every object, you have a short text about the loves of people all around the world, who gave those objects to the museum.

The Zagreb City Museum is a great place where you can find out something more about the city’s history, architecture and politics.

13:30-14:30
Are you hungry? We prepared for you list of places where you can have memorable lunch - you just need to pick one depending on the food you prefer. So, let’s begin:

1) Mio Corason – tapas concept, so you can combine few dishes and share it with your friends.
2) Mundoaka – fancy served and very delicious meat. The place is always really crowded, so we recommend you to make a reservation in advance.
3) Bistroteka - Brilliant modern food full of flavour and style, where you can eat good both fish and meat.
4) Boban – if you are pasta fan, don't miss this place!
5) Pizzeria Duksa – the best pizza place in Zagreb! + it is situated near our next destination!

14:30-18:30
Searching for escape place far away from busy capital’s atmosphere? For the place where you can relax, find the quite place and just have perfect zen moment? Then it's time for visiting the biggest park in Zagreb: Maksimir!

Maksimir has few lakes. You can easily be lost somewhere in the woods, literally surrounded just by the trees, but nothing can happen to you, because soon you'll find some signs on the road that will lead you to one of the lakes or to the exit :)

What to know? Zagreb Zoo is located in the entrance of the park. It's beautifully decorated zoo park with various types of animals. The cost of the ticket is around 4euros.

18:30-19:30
After the exhausting day, you should refill you energy with sweets! And perfect place where you can do that is: Amelie! Really cute place where you can eat great homemade ice-cream, cakes, macarons and other sweets enjoying wonderful interior.

The other place that we totally recommend is: Cookie Factory. There you must try the specialty: brownie with ice-cream - mmhm super delicious! Yummi!

Also - Vincek is an old traditional patisserie on Illica Street which has great ice-creams!

21:00- …
After a long touring day, you probably want to jut chill in some bar, sipping a glass of good wine or beer.
So, this time we chose some wine bars for you: Cheese bar, Tesla power house and Mojobar, wine rakija & co. The last two are excellent places where you can have pre-drink and enjoy in great atmosphere sipping the good wine or traditional rakia.

If you are not that much into wine, you should visit Medvedevgrad – the place where everyone from Zagreb will take you for the first time! There you may have various offer of different types of beers + you can try typical Croatian traditional food!

For night out – there is the most popular nightclub – the Peppermint, which is located in Ilica Street.

The well known fast food place named Pingvin will welcome you in any hour after the late night out, offering you the sandwiches and burgers.

PS. If you need any other information, there is the Tourist Information office at the main square (Trg bana Josip Jelačića 11; Tel: +385 1 48-14-051, +385 1 48-14-052; hours: Mon-Fri: 8.30am-8pm; Sat: 9am-6pm; Sun 10am-4pm). And of course, before all of this, go there and get a map of the city!
